Anna Brett is a quiet young woman who takes over her aunt's antique business when her aunt gets sick. Anna hires a nurse to take care of her aunt until her aunt has an accident and dies. Anna's antique business fails and her friend Nurse Loman gets her a job as a governess at Castle Crediton. Anna falls for Redvers Stretton, the captain of a ship called The Secret Woman. Unfortunately, he's married to an eccentric woman who wants to go back home to her native island somewhere in the South Seas. So, the whole family goes to this remote little island and that's where a lot of the mystery and intrigue develop.
