Sophie loves her Hollywood job as a personal publicist, and things couldn't be better. Sophie works as a PR rep to the stars. She lands the dream client and is representing the Billy Fox, the “it” star of the moment. Her boyfriend Jacob is a high-powered investment banker. Handsome and full of swagger. Sophie loves Jacob as much as her job. Unfortunately for Jacob, he can't compete with Billy.

Sophie has learned to play the game and keep her month-to-month financial situation under wraps. She dresses the part and talks a good game. Meaning she spends any extra money and that she doesn't have on clothing and accessories. Her address is in a good neighborhood and her car is always clean.

Jake is really a nice guy. Easy and pretty down to earth. Even though he works with money he enjoys things like watching television with his girl in his arms at night. His mom is a breast cancer survivor and he is on a fund raising committee tor raise awareness.

Izzy and Beth have been best friends since elementary school. Izzy is an editor at Vintage and lives in New York, with her graphic-designer husband and two-year-old son Charlie.

Sophie is getting the charge of her life with Billy as her priority climate. When Billy kisses her in his limo she goes limp. She considers for all of one second coming clean with Jacob. At the same time she thinks of how honest he has been and decides to let things ride.

Billy had asked her if she was involved and she gave the short version. She told him she has a man, but that he was comfortable and hadn't asked her to marry him. Billy apparently took the information in and decided she was available.

Sophie breaks things off with Jacob deciding maybe a bit prematurely that she and Billy may stand a chance. He seems to really like her. Jacob is crushed to the core. She takes a quick getaway vacation to think things through.

She feels terrible about hurting Jacob but not telling him wouldn't have been fair either. When she returns to Los Angeles, Izzy comes to visit. Sophie queries Izzy about married life.. She wants to know, if it is all it seems to be. Izzy reminds her that Jacob hadn't shown a bit of interest in making her his wife, and that Sophie should live hers to the fullest.

Sophie and Jacob end up at the same party thrown by a mutual friend. An awkward moment full of anger and sexual tension passes between them. He tells her the grapevine says she hasn't dated since they broke up. Which means, Billy probably played her. Sophie thinks Jacob may kiss her, when he doesn't she gets pissed.

Sophie finally learns that she was set up to be fired by her competitive co-worker Priscilla. The woman was mad that Sophie had gotten Billy as a client and hired a private detective to follow them and get photos of anything short of professional business. He'd lucked out and caught them kissing several times. Elle the big boss hates tattle tales and fires Priscilla and hires Sophie back. She does reprimand her.

Sophie is elated to have her job back and wants to share the news with Jacob, but they are still playing the game of “you-call-me-first”. When the auction supporting cancer surivors comes around Sophie's firm enters her as a date for the highest bidder. Jacob bids fifteen thousand and wins a night with his former girl. He proposes on stage. They marry, as Billy's movie flops and goes straight to DVD. Sophie has Jacob and they are going to be each others lead star. Best part of story, including ending: I hated how much Sophie listened to her friends instead of her instincts.

Best scene in story: My favorite scene was when Jacob called it off after learning Sophie had kicked it with Billy.

Opinion about the main character: I disliked that Sophie refused to be a grown up.
