Fourteen year old Mattie Ross sets out to track down, Tom Chaney, the killer of her father, Frank Ross, and bring him to justice. She commissions the help of Marshall Rooster Cogburn, and accepts the assistance of a Texas-ranger cum bounty hunter also in search of Chaney for killing a Texas senator. Along the way they run into a group of bandits, which Chaney has joined. Following some gunplay the bandits are killed. And Chaney and Mattie fall into a pit of rattlesnakes….
