christine posts on 4/11/2009 9:08:11 AM I am a person who HATES history. I failed it evey year starting in 7th grade. I read this book for college and I was amazed at how much I didnt know. This book is historical, yes, but it kept me reading, it kept me learning. I read often and am usually a captive audience, I groaned when told I had to read this. I didnt find the book hard to read at all, I found it hard to put down. Great read! Opened my eyes quite a bit.
None of your Buisness posts on 12/7/2008 8:36:48 PM If there is another comment about how awful this book is I'm going to go insane. Hochschild's account of King Leopold II rule is a horrible one but the book is good none the less. Although, for some, it may be to hard comprehend. If you can't read at a college level, I do not suggest this book because "it, like, might be totally hard" to understand.
Amber posts on 2/27/2008 11:54:20 AM I am sorry but this book is totally boring. I did not undestand anything. It switched from first person to third person causing me to become confused and frustrated. I tried to read this book with an open mind but it just was not making any sense to me. I see why so many people turned it down. It is not the kind of book that would want to pick and read if I am bored and I love to read.

Anonymous posts on 2/10/2005 1:23:05 PM The book is great and you'll agree if you have any intelligence in you. It's not a novel but a historical narrative. I never knew before I read the book what a horrible king King leopold was.
