You are correct in your assumptions. Robin Williams did attend DCDS and the teacher was John Campbell that he patterned his performance after. Ironically, John Campbell was fired from DCDS in 1991 after 28 years for very similar reasons that Williams' character lost his job in the movie.

This movie disappointed me as there was little or no actual dead poets involved

I think the teacher at Detroit Country Day was John Campbell, can anyone varify that, he once lived in Farmington, Michigan and taught AP History at Country Day.

Yes Robin Williams did attend Detroit Country Day, but didn't graduate (as his family moved to California when he was 16). I have heard that the teacher also taught at country day, however, have looked on the internet and have not found anything to verify that.

Did Robin Williams ever attend Detroit Country Day School in Michigan? Who was the teacher at that school that he modeled his character after?
