Liudmila Oberfeld posts on 4/3/2005 1:00:15 AM I am currently working on the translation of Donna Leon's "A Venetian Reckoning". I try to make footnotes explaining what this or that sight in Venice is famous for, whenever it is mentioned. But this time I just can't make out which statue is ment in the following passage: "Directly in front of him was the statue Brunetti had always thought of as the Meringue Man? so starkly white and porous was marble from which he was carved. Other people, seeing the pile of books that seemed to issue from beneath his coat, called him something more indelicate" If anyone could help me in identifying this mysterious :)) statue I'll be very grateful. My e-mail is oberfeld@yandex.ru
