Jane Resh Thomas Message Board

Gigi Andryszewski posts on 3/12/2005 12:47:18 PM Hi... I plan on reading this book with high schoolers that at low reading levels. I was wondering, are there any lesson plans/tests associated with the book? That would be very helpful to me. Thank you.
Curtis Blaine posts on 3/6/2005 2:01:33 AM Dear Ms. Thomas: I was reading an article that offered advice for new writers, and in the article you are quoted as follows: "Eliminate 'have', 'got', 'want' and other words or phrases that slow the story or create distance between the character and reader." Can you point me toward any articles you (or others) have written that give concrete examples of sentences that are good (non-boring, engaging), and those that are not. I think that would help me a great deal. Thank you.
Margaret L. (Ponto) Courtney posts on 3/4/2005 10:34:32 PM Jane: I took an Eng. Comp. course from you at Mtka. HS in probably 1976. You inspired me, encouraged me, and gave me hope at a difficult time in my life. Have thought of you often and would like to be in touch if you care to correspond. (Since you knew me, I've divorced and been happily remarried for 24 years!!) Sincerely, Margaret (formerly known as "Marge", now Maggie!)
