People like to judge books by their covers, and if those covers happen to be harder and more durable, potential readers start to wonder if it's worth reading more because somebody has taken the money and effort to publish the book as such.

Well, Book 7 is out now, 3 months early, and it's a Hardcover. That means I'll have to wait another year before I can read it. I'm sorry but for that kind of money I can buy 3-4 paper backs, and I just can't afford to pay hardcover prices for a series.
I don't know what the Publishers are thinking with this trend to turn evey paperback series into a hardcover, they're discouraging readers. Making us wait longer to read the book and killing our enthusiasm for the series.
