L'Atalante Message Board

Richard Podnar posts a message on 2/8/2006 2:18:00 AM I had never heard of this motion picture until I was reading a book about Hollywood directors several years ago. Several dozen of them were asked to name what they considered their "10 Best Films Of All Time". "L'Atalante" kept coming up on all the lists by several noted directors. This film epitomizes the early 30's era of France. It is a visual delight as well as totally captivating through its excellent performances and the entire film technique which had to be revolutionary for its time. There is an underlying sensuality about the whole production, but it never shocks of insenses the viewer. "10 Best Lists?" I would definitely put this one on my own list without any doubt whatsoever!
