Mariegabrielle posts on 4/5/2011 12:48:12 AM Mr Hodel I am very interested in your real story. I am a writer, yes but freelance(i.e. broke, lol) I am very interested in what went on in Sowden House: That's a story in itself. I have read a great deal re: the dahlia case. I do see its confusing. It continues to have the intrigue, which has been missing in american media forever....I do try to understand why, why would a man....want to do the Glasgow/Cheshire slash to a womans face??. I actually had the pleasure of previously meeting Mr Ellroy and also my Dad worked at NYT ....imo this is a story so very personal....do you have ideas as to why...I do see from what I have read your dad was genius IQ....mine was too...its not an endearing thing for the offspring. I am so interested, its strange to imagine that these things do not have future outreach. It is purely self-interest and psychological: I am sure you get thousands of emails per day. Suffice to say I had a troubled childhood, relate to the story and am just wondering why certain things happened. Im not interested in sensational/Hollywood...its more the psychology of the thing...I dont understand how a man can bring kids in the world...and do what he did.....thanks for any insight-sincerely-mariegabrielle christy

Sandy posts on 11/24/2010 3:38:50 PM Dear Steve, I am in hopes that you see this and answer me. I have been a pen pal of William Heirens. As you know he has been in prison for 64 years branded as the "lipstick killer". Please help to get him out of prison before he passes away. Your father lead a terrible killing life but he was free while others (and not only Mr Heirens) has paid for his crimes. Please help him. Sandy

Margaret Anthony posts on 9/24/2010 8:03:53 PM Dear Mr. Hodel,I have been following the Beth Short story for many many years.I did not agree with your idea that the woman in the picture was Beth Short.I believe the lady is Marjorie Gardner who was murdered in London around 1946. Although the man arrested for the crime was a killer he claimed he did not kill Ms. Gardner but was indicted anyway.
Patric posts on 11/11/2009 10:14:58 PM Steven, after catching most of the Bill Curtis piece a few weeks ago,I went and bought your book.Found it riveting! I find it impossibe to believe that anyone else could have been the killer(s).My question to you is,do you believe that your father may have continued his murderous ways when he lived abroad? Or, did he possibly satisfy the need to kill when visiting the states? It is hard to believe he could just turn off that switch so easily and lead a crime free life wwhile still a relatively young man. TThanks for a great read.
judith bellman posts on 8/18/2009 12:50:14 PM I am writing in the hope that Steve Hodel monitors this site. I just finished your book, Black Dahlia Avenger, and I have an interesting "thoughtprint' to share regarding the photograph of Kent Kane Parrot, Subject #1 on page 349. Could be nothing, then again? I am convinced that you are correct in your assessments. I have read Ellroy's books and understand the difference in fiction and studied documentation. If you are interested in what I see in Parrot's picture, please respond to e-mail address provided. Thanks for a riveting read and for putting to rest one of the enigmas of the century. jb/SDCA
Susan posts on 8/17/2009 1:27:50 PM I saw something on tv the other night about the book, and had to read it. Now I have a few observations. Firstly, might not the woman seen with the "two men", be Kiyo(with a wig)? With the psychological profile given in your book of George Hodel, his reaction to Kiyo, when you present her as your wife, would be consistent if she had somehow been involved in some of his/Sexton's crimes. And she seemed really evil, as George was.She certainly couldn't have blown the whistle on him when they split, if she were involved in his crimes herself. I also wonder about Dorero, the author's mother. What did she see, in the Franklin House years? The incest? Bloody clothing? Was she silent out of fear? It would account for the drinking. And if the DA's office pursued an investigation after the LAPD dropped it, why did they take Jamieson off the case when he pursued George Hodel? The DA's investigation was a total sham, though they were separate from the LAPD? What new evidence are you referring to at the end of the book? I've read that the family of Elizabeth Short denies that the photos in George's book are of her. Is this so?And lastly, might not the wire stating "a promise is a promise to a person of the world" mean George's promise? What if Elizabeth is holding him to a promise he made, but wants to violate? Thank you for the book. I found it a persuasive and engrossing read. My sympathies really go out to you for what you have suffered in your life from people you loved.
kathy r posts on 6/11/2009 8:18:09 PM Hi Steven; I spoke with you after I went to see that STUPID SO CALLED BLACK DAHLIA MOVIE also a couple of years ago, and you advised me then that you were looking into making a REAL and ACCURATE, HISTORICALLY TRUE version. well, I've been 'holding my breath' for TWO YEARS! Any progress on the REAL movie? Just seems too obvious thast GEORGE was the PSYCHO PERP! No one will ever be able to convince ME otherwise! (Evidentiary Photos can be seen on www.rotten.! As a former L.E.O., I can look at them with an Investigative Eye. GREAT PICS!!

linda posts on 5/18/2009 6:03:47 PM My first question has always been, why does Steve Hodel so desperately want his father to be the Black Dahlia killer? I read the book when it first came out (don't know if it's been updated) and while I did find many coincidences that kind of made me wonder, there were not enough to convince me that George Hodel is the killer. There was another physician in Elizabeth Short's life who lived very close to where her body was found. Unfortunately I can't remember his name, but I'm sure it's in some records somewhere. For someone who claims to love his father to this day, Steve Hodel paints him as the picture of evil incarnate.
