The Night Strangler Message Board

Gordin posts a message on 6/23/2009 8:37:06 AM This is probably my favorite TV movie of all time. I watched Kolchak: The Night Stalker religiously as a kid, and to date, it's the best TV series I ever saw. The Night Strangler is the 1973 sequel to The Night Stalker, both telefilms then served to kick off the magnificent, but tragically short lived series. The acting is superb as is the story, cinematography, and everything else I can name about this wonderful picture. The scare factor is also excellent, and honestly, the old saw about not making them "like they used to" is absolutely spot on here and in spades. It's hilarious in the right spots, dramatic and tragic when it should be, and scary as heck, too. If you've never seen this or any of the other terrifying adventures of reporter Carl Kolchak; you're missing out on real gems. This is pure gold from the days when TV still had heart and soul, not to mention true artists in the industry, and when it televised real magic. Cars were big and beautiful and ran on ethyl, professional athletes weren't overpaid criminals, neighbors still knew, looked out for, and befriended one another; stores had amazing Christmastime displays (and nobody was sued over "Merry Christmas" or Nativity scenes), and TV was actually wonderful. Do yourself a favor and check out all things Kolchak (the original, 70s version). If it doesn't put a smile on your face, warm the cockles of your heart, and make you want to pop popcorn in the "old fashioned" way with oil or hot air, and snuggle up with the lights off, then you've got problems far too serious to be fixed here, my friend!
