Zardoz Message Board

gethfr posts on 2/8/2005 11:47:44 AM I am old enough to remeber when Zardoz was firsted released. And had a difficult time understanding it. Till I read the book, now I consider it totally unique. Why? You should ask why. Zardoz is one of science-fictions only phisophical movies. Other the the evolution centered 2001. Boorman took a hard look at our society and it's wishes and wrote something incredible. The eternals are similar to our aver citizens going about thier daily lives, but not seeing that thier immortality has a price. For the men impotence, because when your immortal the worry of children in negated, and sex and violence are first cousins, see Dr. Ruth. The renegades are like our crinimals feeding off the works of our society and finally the apathetics, walked by any street people lately? What is in the book and not in the film where Zed's thoughts/ He was military raised, taught by his god to kill the brutals who where legion and polluted the earth. They were also mutating. If you grew up during the sixties you would remember the X-men where born at this time. African genesis was on everybodies with inteligence's night stand. Darwin supported against the religious right. For the eternals the vortex was a school a home and a museum. To Zed it was a fortress and the center of his rage at his gods betryal. And after he enters he discovers while the Eternals are Homo Stasis he is Homo Superiorus. My personal favorite scene is when the Eternals are giving him his clues to seek out and destroy the Tabernacle. Arthur asks him what do you see in the ball. To see nothing he would have to be in the dark. Or to put it easier he who fights against dragons long enough becomes a dragon themselves -- Nieche for the eterna
