Afterwards, he heads to the Bahamas, where he meets up with bomb-maker's contact. The contact is found inside a beach resort playing poker with a group of people in the bar.
James joins the game, and beats the contact, winning his Aston Martin and all of his chips. The contact's girlfriend (named Solange) gives James some information about the contact. James then investigates the contact and his connections. James sees that all of his connections are dead except Le Chiffre, a private banker to the terrorists. After killing the contact's assistant who attempted to blow up an airplane (ELLIPSES was the code to the airport staff door), he thinks his job is done, but it isn't.
The banker, Le Chiffre, falls behind in his funds, and asks the terrorists for some extra time to regain money. The terrorists agree, but they tell him how if he doesn't get the money by a certain time, he will be killed. Le Chiffre goes to a high-stakes poker tournament in Montenegro at Casino Royale to win the money, but has no idea that James Bond is coming to stop him. Bond's instructions are to stop Le Chiffre from winning the poker tournament without killing him and causing as much notoriety as he did last time. James meets up with his contact, Vesper Lynd on his way to Montenegro, where she explains how she will be funding him for his mission at Casino Royale. From there, Bond meets up with his assisting agent, Mathis, inside Casino Royale. The officials explain to the players what the rules are for the poker tournament, and the game begins. Tension grows between James and Le Chiffre as they play against each other for the win. James loses later and is kicked out of the game, but CIA agent Felix Leiter, who is also playing, agrees to give James the money to get back into the game if James agrees to let Le Chiffre into CIA custody instead of M16. They make a deal and James gets back in the game. The two poker professionals continue to play, but only one player will win.
