Orphan Heidi has been raised by her aunt since birth. But when her aunt gets a good job, Heidi is dumped in the mountains to live with her grandfather. Grandpa is initially harsh and gruff, but the two soon become close.

Just when things are looking up, Heidi is kidnapped by her aunt, so that she can be a companion to Clara, a wheelchair-bound girl in Frankfort.
Although she is desperately homesick, Heidi befriends Clara, and tries to help her walk again. In the meantime, Clara's governess tries to make trouble for Heidi, and Heidi's grandfather treks across the mountains to rescue her.
