INFERNO, written and directed by Dario Argento in 1980, is the second movie of the Three Mothers trilogy.
We have learned in SUSPIRIA that the world is ruled by the three Mothers who are living in Germany, Italy and New-York. Now Irene Miracle (!) understands by reading a diary written in Latin that she happens to live in Mater Tenebrarum's mansion and that the only way to destroy this terrible witch is to find the key that will reveal her name to the world. Irene sends a letter to her brother Mark, a student in musicology, in Rome to ask him to come to NYC. When Mark arrives in Irene's apartment, she has already been murdered by the witch. Mark will have to discover who, amidst the other tenants of the mansion, is Mater Tenebrarum.
A symphony in red and blue. A giallo dealing with alchemy that is maybe Dario Argento's best movie. Recommended.
