Enrique Goded (Martinez), a Spanish filmmaker, has had one minor success but is at a loss for his next project. One day a young actor named Ignacio (Bernal, the star of Y Tu Mama Tambien and The Motorcycle Diaries) shows up and claims he was a classmate of Enrique's in their private Catholic boys school. Ignacio has written a story based on their experiences, involving a youthful crush broken up by a priest, Father Manolo (Cacho), who desired Ignacio for himself and ended up molesting him. Goded is intrigued by the story for a film, but even more curious about the fact that "Ignacio" is not his old school buddy after all, though he is trying to blackmail the now ex-priest Father Manolo, who now calls himself Manuel Berenguer. After some heated negotiation, Enrique allows the stranger to play the character of Ignacio in the film.

As more people from the actor's and director's lives and pasts turn up, secrets and deceptions continue to reveal themselves. This is Spanish writer-director Pedro Almodovar's 2004 project, and like his other films, it is strange, surprising, and gorgeously photographed.
