Morgan Freeman is brilliant as Principal Joe Clark, who is in charge of keeping the students at a troubled high school in New Jersey in line. The teachers don't agree with his principal style, and the students despise him. But when Clark goes to jail, the students and teachers unite to set him free and save his job. There's the ever-climactic auditorium scene in which everyone joins hands and sings the Bill Withers classic that lent its name to the film itself.
