A boxer is asked to take a dive or else he will be killed. Instead he plans to win and leave with his girlfriend. His plan backfires when he is almost caught. As an escape he joins the French Foreign Legion. There he trains for battle. After training the Legion he is sent out to battle an Arab group.

A young boxer in Marseilles in the 1920's gets paid by a gangster to take a dive, but wins instead, and tries to escape with his sweetheart (who is married to the gangster). His plan fails, so he joins the French Foreign Legion. The usual adventures ensue, with the polyglot platoon, the comeradery, and the last stand against the Arab horde.
