The setting is Paris, France just after WWII. Two prostitutes are telling a new colleague the story of Petit Louis and Marion. Petit Louis was the son of a prostitute and was raised in a brothel. As soon as he saw Marion who was trying to be hired in the brothel, Petit Louis decided to take care of her during his whole life. Madly in love with the young girl but aware of his own lack of beauty, Petit Louis desperately tried to find the perfect match for her. When Dimitri makes his appeareance, Marion falls for him and is happy, as well as Petit Louis, for the first time of her life. But Dimitri is a thief who's betrayed a local mob boss and is always running in order to escape the anger of his enemies. Furthermore, Marion must work a lot in order to help him financially. Petit Louis starts to wonder whether Dimitri is after all the perfect match for his beloved.
