François Hainaut is a 50 years old philosophy teacher who falls in love with the 17 years old Mathilde Tessier, one of the most gifted students he's ever seen in his career. François is married to Catherine, a bookstore owner who starts to receive anonymous letters denouncing her husband's behaviour. When Mathilde asks him to leave his wife, François understands that there isn't any future in their relation and ends it. From this moment on, a still in love Mathilde will try first to make him jealous. She will also harass the couple with anonymous phone calls and hire a friend to ruin Catherine's bookstore one night.
