Although the title is the name of a female character, the actual major figure here is a physician, Dr. Richard Talbot. A pillar of his West Coast community, the straitlaced Dr. Talbot has been married to the same woman for 20 years, and they have two teenaged children. His life changes, however, when he attends to an attractive young singer, Nora Prescott. Feeling his marriage is too staid and predictable, Dr. Talbot falls for Nora, and they embark on a torrid affair.
