Jerry Stahl is a hot television writer addicted to heroin. Fed up with New York and his drug addiction, he moves out to L.A. in the hopes of kicking his habit. He meets Sandra (Elizabeth Hurley) who needs her green card so he agrees to marry her. She gets him a job writing schlock for a puppet show which paid him $5,000 a week, but he has a $6,000 a week for his drug habit. Jerry ultimately gets fired and screws everything up in his life. He weakly tries to go to rehab but then meets another addict he smokes dope with. He finds out Sandra is pregnant with his child and tries to improve himself.
