The setting is Algiers. Pépé Le Moko, a french gangster has become the King of the Casbah where the police can not arrest him because everybody loves and protects Pépé. Inspector Slimane has understood that the only way to catch Pépé is to make him get out of the Casbah. In the meantime, Pépé falls madly in love with a beautiful French tourist but he has to deal with his actual companion, Inez the gipsy, who won't surrender so easily.
