A group of former spies in 1990s Europe are hired to recover a stolen case. Betrayal, intrigue, and action follow, as each character seems to have a different motivation for pursuing the prize. In addition to searching for the mysterious case, Sam (Robert de Niro) and his comrades seem to be seeking validation in the post-Cold War world, where their services are no longer needed by governments. For this reason they are like the Ronin -- masterless samurai with no lord to follow or purpose to fulfill. Ronin is blessed with an incisive script written by David Mamet and impressive direction (including a spectacular series of car chases) by John Frankenheimer.

In post-Cold War Europe, Irish terrorists recruit an international team to capture a briefcase with something- we don't know what- that is important inside it. A gun battle movie, with lots of good one-linersd and car chases. Plus De Niro is pretty cool in this one.
