This is based on a true story of two young girls' experience in Selma, Alabama. The story focuses on young black student, Cheyann Webb. She is very excited when Martin Luther King, Jr. comes to town. She is late to school because she goes to the church building where he is meeting and speaking. She is happy to get to meet him there. He even asks her to sing in a meeting later on.

A white man from the north, studying to be a minister, joins Martin Luther King, Jr.'s cause and becomes involved in peaceful marches, protests, and other things.
Cheyann goes along on some of the marches, too.
The march over the bridge--resulting in the nickname "Bloody Sunday"--is very sad, though nothing graphic is shown.
