On his last patrol, he's forced to escort two women through hostile arrapajo territory to meet a stage coach.

When they reach the stage coach station, they find that the indians had already been there. They find the place in ruins and everyone there dead.
They're forced to turn back and return to the fort.

The cavalry troop is formed. They sneak up to the indian camp and attack, wiping out the indians.

Having served his time, the seargent retires and rides off into the sunset. But, one of the troops must ride after him to deliver a letter.

He's been awarded a promotion. So, he decides to stay with the cavalry and become an instrictor.
