Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny

This movie is a parody about rock and roll musicians. Jack Black plays the lead character of JB. His dream is to be a rock star. He pals up with a guy named KG (played by Kyle Gass) to form the band called “Tenacious D.” They want to win the competition at the Open Mike Night at nearby club so they can pay the rent. When they look at posters of rock guitar gods from the past, they see they most famous ones have one thing in common; they are using the same guitar pick.

They go to the guitar store to buy this pick. The clerk (played by Ben Stiller) has a strange reaction when they mention the pick to him. He takes them to a back room, where he tells them the story of the “Pick of Destiny." It is an ancient story about the fight against evil and the Pick of Destiny is the key to the magical success of the rock stars. The store clerk tells them the Pick of Destiny is currently in the Rock and Roll History Museum, but to obtain it is nearly impossible. Nevertheless JB and KG make plans to break into the Rock and Roll History Museum, steal the Pick of Destiny, become rock stars and pay their rent.

On the way to break into the Rock and Roll History Museum, KG sees some pretty girls in a café dinner. When he tells them he is a famous rock stars and lies to them about being inducted into the Rock and Roll History Museum, they invite him to go to a party with them, where he can perform. JB and KG get in an argument over this because JB wants to continue on with the mission to break into the Rock and Roll History Museum, steal the Pick of Destiny and become rock stars. JB does not want to be distracted by pretty girls or delayed in the mission. At the same time, JB meets a one-legged homeless guy called the Stranger (played by Tim Robbins) who tells JB his story of trying to break into the Rock and Roll History Museum, to steal the Pick of Destiny using the vents on the roof of the building to gain entrance. But when he was about to escape with the Pick of Destiny, the security door came down and crushed his leg, which is how he lost his leg. JB understands the plan and escape from the homeless guy. He walks through the nearby forest on foot where he encounters mushrooms. He eats the mushrooms and they make him hallucinate. He does all kinds of crazy dancing and climbing of trees in the forest, but eventually ends up at the Rock and Roll History Museum, where he climbs the wall and gets to the roof to enter through the air vent.

Once inside the air vent he hears his friend KG. At first he thinks his voice is on the radio, but instead his friend KG has come to join in the attempt to get the Pick of Destiny.   There are two bumbling security guards, (played by Ned Bellamy and Fred Armisen), who are watching over the museum. JB and KG avoid the security guards as they search the museum for clues as to where the Pick of Destiny might be kept. They realize the Pick of Destiny is in the display of rock gods at the top of the stairway to rock heaven. The problem is the display is protected by laser beams. JB is able to move through the laser beams without disturbing them, until he gets almost to the display. But then he is trapped. He sees a red button which may be used to disable the laser beams, but cannot move his arms or hands to reach it. He must push the button with his penis. After much concentration, he is able to do this, shutting down the laser protection system. JB and KG are able to get the Pick of Destiny from the display, but end up knocking everything over doing so. This alerts the security guards of the robbery taking place. JB and KG barely escape with the Pick of Destiny.

Outside the museum, they are confronted by the homeless man who demands they give him the Pick of Destiny by brandishing a knife. They realize they can easily out run him, so they run away and the homeless guy is arrested for the museum break-in. On the way back to the club in Los Angeles, where they want to make their rock performance, a police car tries to stop them for having a broken taillight. They don't stop and a high-speed chase ensues. They crash the car, but are able to escape down a sewer manhole cover just before the car explodes. They come out of the sewer across town in front of the night club where they want to perform. The evil monster is there who wants the Pick of Destiny back. In order to keep the Pick of Destiny, they challenge the evil monster to a rock off competition. After a massive rock jam, they defeat him.
Best part of story, including ending: This is a stoner movie, so how funny it is depends on how stoned the audience is.

Best scene in story: I like the scene when KG thinks he has an inspiration for a new song. He concentrates on playing the new tune on his guitar, and then farts instead. It is stupid, but funny.

Opinion about the main character: The lead character of JB gets his dream to be a rock star and his big success is he is able to pay the rent.
