Julie, Ingram's nurse, inherits all of his money and property, much to the dismay of his family, who now suspect murder.
The Commissario is called and everyone remains in the mansion until the situation is resolved. Suddenly, people begin dying. Hilary, a scientist and Ingram's friend, claims the killer is a severed hand. The Commissario and Conrad, Ingram's friend and Julie's love, investigate and discover that Ingram's hand has been removed. Hilary had removed the hand and rigged a hidden record player to sound like Ingram playing the piano to trick everyone into believing the mansion was haunted and Ingram's hand was killing people; when, in actuality, it was him doing the killing.
However, Hilary begins going insane and starts to believe that the hand is trying to kill him. He imagines the hand strangling him and it scares him to death.
With Hilary dead, the Commissario and Conrad find the hand and the record player and solve the crime.
