Binh and his younger brother are children of a US GI and a Vietnamese mother. But his father left Vietnam long ago and never came back for his family, and Binh's mother is unable to make enough money to raise both of her kids alone. Thus Binh is left with relatives on the countryside, but as the sun of a US soldier he remains an outcast.

One day Binh decides to go to America to find his father. He joins his mother in the city and takes his little brother with him. But the voyage to the "beautiful country" is strenuous, and they have to endure many hardships. And when Binh arrives in America nothing is as he had expected.
