This story concerns a group of WW II veterans who return to their families, only to find disappointment and feelings of inadequacy. One has lost his hands and must endure people's stares; another finds his children are perfect strangers that who have grown up without him; the other is stuck in a loveless marriage. Each must adjust and find meaning in a post-war world and make these times the best years of their lives.
