Detailed plot synopsis reviews of The Condemned

A producer of a live Internet webcast, bribes the prison wardens of the worst prisons in the world, to get ten death-row inmates from all over, so he can bring them to a deserted island to make them fight each other until only one survivor is left, who is to be set free. Steve Austin plays the lead character of Jack Conrad. Conrad is a special-forces U.S. military man incarcerated in El Salvador. Ian Breckel (played by Robert Mammone) and his team are setting up equipment on a remote island in order to video and then live webcast a fight to the death of ten death-row inmates brought from all over the world. Breckel's team is supposed to get another prisoner from the prison in El Salvador but when Conrad is put in the cell with the man, who attacks him, Conrad easily kills the man instead. The ten killers are brought to Breckel's headquarters. They are outfitted with an ankle bracelet, which is an explosive device. It has a timer set for thirty hours. It can be triggered by pulling a red tape out of the device and explodes ten seconds later, or it will explode when tampered with, or it explodes at the end of the thirty hours unless disarmed by Breckel team for the one survivor.

Using helicopters, they drop all ten, eight men, two women, on the island in different spots. They give the names of all the prisoner on the website called "The Condemned." They are: Helmut (played by Andy McPhee) from Germany, Dominic (played by Rai Faizo) from Italy, Saiga (played by Masa Yamaguchi) from Japan, Kreston (played by Marcus Johnson) from USA, Rosa (played by Dasi Ruz) from Mexico, Rosa's husband Paco (played by Manu Bennett) from Mexico, Ewan (played by Vinnie Jones) from UK, Yasantwa (played by Emilia Burns) from Uganda, Petr (played by Nathan Jones) from Estonia, and Jack from USA.

The most boastful one, Dominic, dies from being dropped when he is impaled on something below. There are nine left. The German guy Helmut attacks one of the women Yasantwa. He tries to rape her. She stabs him, pulls the safety tape from his explosive device, then gets away. He explodes ten seconds later. Eight left. Paco runs into Jack. The fight at first, Jack gets the upper hand but allows Paco to leave, when Paco says all he is looking for is his wife Rosa. Kreston fights with Saiga but escapes unharmed. Saiga challenges Ewan. Ewan suggests they team up as allies. Jack and Petr fight. They wrestle and roll down a hill. Petr loses the safety tape from his explosive device. Jack breaks free from Petr, at the last possible moment, and shoves Petr off a cliff. Petr explodes. Seven left.

The FBI tries to determine the location of the island, which is somewhere in the South Pacific in order to shut the webcast down. Someone on the Internet recognizes Jack Conrad as Jack Riley, then calls in a tip to the FBI. He is retired U.S. Army. One year prior he disappeared from his home in Texas without leaving a trace. He left behind his girlfriend Sarah Cavanaugh (played by Madeline West). Sarah gets a call from the FBI, she finds the website and sees Jack. The FBI figures out Jack was on a special ops mission to secretly take out drug dealers.

On the island, Paco finds Rosa. Both of them are discovered by Ewan and Saiga. Ewan hand-cuffs Paco to a tree. Ewan brutally beats Rosa, cuts her, rapes her. They do not have a good camera angle for the webcast so they send in a live unit which is a two-man crew in camouflage with a camera. The crew has a fight about how brutal the footage is. Julie (played by Tory Mussett) who is Breckel's assistant tells him to stop. Rosa' explosive device goes off. Six left. Paco escapes. Jack finds Paco in the woods crying. Paco asks Jack to help him kill Ewan and Saiga who teamed up. Ewan and Saiga gets knives, a bow and arrows, and liquor in a pack thrown down from a helicopter. Jack and Paco go together. Kreston finds Yasantwa. They decide to team up. Jack tells Paco he is going to a radio tower he saw on the north of the island. Jack figures out how to shield his device from GPS tracking. Paco has a broken leg so he cannot go. He leaves him alive with water in a hidden place. Breckel's video guy Goldman (played by Rick Hoffman) finds him with the video surveillance, but then loses him because there are no surveillance cameras near Breckel's headquarters. Jack gets into the compound. He gets to a phone and calls Sarah. Jack just her his secret bank account number with his money for her just in case. They see him in the tower. He gives her part of the location coordinates but they shut down the power before he finishes so they only have half the information. Sarah calls and gives it to the FBI. Kreston and Yasantwa starts to bond. But Yasantwa is only faking her interest. She pulls his safety tape and leaves when he does not notice. He blows up. Five left. Paco is attacked by Ewan and Saiga. They beat him fiercely. Goldman and Julie plead with Breckel to stop the webcast. Breckel refuses. Breckel demands to know if Goldman is loyal. Goldman is conflicted but he decides to continue supporting Breckel. Jack gets back just before Paco dies. He watches them kill him and set him on fire. Four left. Jack fashions some weapons for himself. Jack attacks Saiga. Ewan joins the fight. Jack runs into a concrete bunker. Yasantwa is there. She attacks him. He subdues her but she is shot in the back with an arrow by Ewan. As she dies, she pulls the safety tape on her bomb. Three left. jack escapes through a hole in the floor right before the bunker explodes. Sarah is watching with a bar full of people in Texas. They think Jack is dead. Jack reappears on the screen beating Saiga. Ewan joins the fight. Jack fights both of them. Jack stabs Saiga with a knife killing him. Two left. Ewan escapes. Ewan runs to a cliff, jumps off into the water. Jack jumps in after him. Ewan gets a gun in a pack thrown down from a helicopter. Ewan finds the camouflage camera crew and shoots both men. Jack attacks Ewan, gets the gun away from him, they struggle, Ewan gets the gun back, jack goes off a cliff and falls into the water. Jack appears to be shot. Ewan is announced as the winner.

The FBI figures out where the island is located. The US military Navy Seals are coming to the island. Breckel learns about it. Breckel is leaving alone. Goldman tries to stop him. Breckel aide kills Goldman. Ewan comes to the headquarters. They take his bomb off. Ewan demands money. Breckel tells him all he gets is his freedom. Ewan gets a weapon. He shoots everyone in the control room. Jack is still alive. Jack comes back into camp. Jack goes after Breckel. Breckel escapes. Ewan is about to kill the last remaining survivor of the crew, Julie. Jack stops him. Jack kills Ewan. Breckel escapes in a helicopter. Jack shoots at it but misses. The helicopter takes off. Julie hands him the last bomb. Jack pulls the safety on it, throws it into the helicopter as it flies away. The helicopter explodes killing Breckel. Jack goes home to Texas and is reunited with Sarah.
Best part of story, including ending: It is super brutal, but this film is non-stop action.

Best scene in story: I like the scene when Jack does not kill Paco, but leaves him safe and with water, while he goes to look for a way to call his girlfriend. The Jack character is a really good guy.

Opinion about the main character: I like that Jack only kills when he is forced to kill, except at the end when he takes his revenge on Breckel and his men.
