He crosses paths with a Sheriff called Lightning who when on the paths of the claim jumpers is shot in his pistol hand. Desperate for a deputy to hide his now useless trigger finger, he hires the kid who can draw a gun faster than anyone he's seen. They try to hunt down the group of thieves and murderers and eventually have one member in custody. However a mob is eager to lynch him so the Sheriff puts him into hiding to protect his only lead to the rest of the criminal organisation. While his plan seems to be working to catch them, what he or the Silver kid don't know is that the mastermind behind them is a woman. A woman who the Sheriff is falling in love with.

Don Siegel directed THE DUEL AT SILVER CREEK in 1952.

When Lightning receives a bullet in the shoulder and can't pull his gun's trigger anymore, he asked the Kid to become his deputy. Lightning falls blindly in love with Opal Lacy who's in fact working for Rod Lacy, the head of the claim jumpers. Opal and Rod gain Lightning's trust and hope to find a way to get rid of the Sherif and his deputy.
