This classic short features Charlie as a bumbling fireman. He is always getting knocked around by the Fire Chief (Campbell) and constantly annoying his co-workers. A man comes to the fire station with his daughter and tells the the Chief that if he lets his house burn down for the insurance money, the Chief will be able to marry his daughter. While this is going on, the daughter begins to flirt with Charlie, dropping her hankie on the floor. Of course, before handing it back to her, he blows his nose with it. A house catches fire, and the brigade is sent out. The man sets his apartment on fire, not realizing that his daughter is upstairs. He panics and gets Charlie to rescue her. In the end, after a daring climb up the apartment building, Charlie and the daughter are united and we close with a kiss.
