Cécile and Alain Costes have been happily married for 18 years. Alain is an absent-minded, eccentric and slightly hypochondriac man so when his friend Georges, a doctor, tells him that he has to undergo a mild surgical operation next week, Alain is convinced he has a terminal disease. He'll spend the rest of the day freewheeling in the town.
Alain awkwardly tries to hide his worries in front of his wife Cécile. She is soon convinced that Alain is cheating on her and she decides to ask a policeman to follow him. Alain soon notices that he's followed. His paranoia doubles and he's now persuaded that there is a conspiracy against him. He follows his wife and sees her talking to the policeman. Is she part of the conspiracy or is the policeman her lover? Alain and Cécile will spend the rest of the week spying on each other and making the most improbable assumptions about the other's behaviour.
A COUPLE EPATANT is a comedy based on misunderstandings and little misapprehensions.
