Jack is a young man from San Francisco who travels to Alaska to claim his late father's settlement. He is there with his dad's friend Alex. Later, they reach a native camp where Jack meets White Fang, a half-wolf, half-dog creature that befriends him. In a bear attack, White Fang saves Jack and he is grateful. The wolf and Jack part ways, Jack continues the journey while White Fang is traded to a mean man who uses him for dog fighting. In one of the fights, Jack intervenes and rescues him. He and the animal live on his land and start prospecting for gold. Jack also begins to re-domesticate White Fang and rehabilitate him. When one of the dog fighter's men happen upon them they plan their revenge and try to rob them. Jack and the wolf defend themselves and the men are soon arrested. Jack must now return to San Francisco and leave the wolf where it belongs. But on the ship, Jack has a change of heart and comes back to the land, where White Fang returns to him.
