The people (men, mostly) who are nationally ranked Scrabble players are an odd bunch. Many of them don't hold down a regular job, they spend many hours memorizing unlikely words (but not the definitions), and spend much time on the road and crashing in hotels where the national competitions take place. This film focuses on four of the top players during the months leading up to the 2004 national tournament in San Diego. We look in on their home lives, their health problems, their quirks and tantrums. Though not as charming or funny as 2003's "Spellbound," this 2004 movie makes an excellent, no less compelling, companion to it.
