An old picture brings together the only two people who can solve the mystery of an orphan girl behind the gates. Years ago when he was just a boy, Alex took a photo of an orphan girl behind the gates of an orphanage. It was his father's most published photograph. But Alex was told to never speak of the photograph. He wants to know why. Julia has always believed that her mother who died several months ago was her real mother. However, upon finding a set of Russian dolls and seeing the photograph with her childhood necklace on an orphan girl in a museum makes her question this. Julia tracks down the photographer's only living child, who happens to be Alex. They begin to investigate Julia's past, trying to figure out exactly what has happened. Along the way they find out that Julia's mother was a spy, that she is not related to the sister she grew with and that she very well might be the girl in the photograph. There are some still inconsistencies and coupled with multiple break ins and attempts on their life, Alex and Julia do not know if they can continue the investigation. However, curiosity gets the better of them and they are determined to discover the truth behind the girl in the photograph. What they find is certainly not what they expect.

Best part of story, including ending:
I like the story because it had romance tied into a mystery. The mystery kept you interested in the story while the romance tugged at your heartstrings. There were so many aspects to the story that it never got boring.
Best scene in story:
I like the scene where Julia is looking at the photograph because it goes into detail about both the photograph and Julia's emotions while looking at the photograph.
Opinion about the main character:
I love the main character! She is not afraid to stick up to the men in her life who keep trying to stop her from doing what she wants to do. She sticks to her guns and stands her ground.
