This story is about a woman addicted to shopping who learns there is more to life that buying things. Isla Fisher plays the lead character of Rebecca who is addicted to shopping. She is a writer for a garden magazine but wants to write for a fashion magazine instead. Rebecca tries to buy a scarf, on the way to the interview for her new job, but her credit card does not go through. She asks a hot dog vendor to sell the entire supply of hot dogs to her for a check and to give a partial refund in cash so she has enough money to buy the scarf, but the vendor refuses. A man feels sorry for her and gives her a twenty-dollar bill to buy the scarf.

By the time Rebecca gets to the job interview, it is too late and the job is gone. They offer her an interview for a position for a different magazine called “Successful Savings.” She meets Luke Brandon (played by Hugh Dancy), who is the nice man that gave her twenty dollars at the hot dog stand. In the evening, when she is drunk she writes letters to the fashion magazine and to “Successful Savings” but she gets them mixed up and sends the wrong one to each of the editors. Luke likes the letter he receives. He hires her. Rebecca goes shopping instead of doing her work. While shopping she realizes the store has cheated her by selling a cashmere coat that is not completely cashmere. From this, she gets an idea for a new column, which becomes a hit.
Rebecca has credit card debt that is out of control and decides to go the Shopaholics Anonymous. The people at Successful Savings find out about her shopping problem so they fire her. Rebecca's father (played by John Goodman) tries to help her, even offering to sell his motor home. Rebecca refuses because her Dad worked so hard to get the motor home. Rebecca is offered a position with the fashion magazine but she decides not to take it. Rebecca sells all of her clothes to raise money to pay off her debts. Meanwhile Luke starts a new company. At the auction to sell her clothes, there is a big bid on her green scarf, which gives Rebecca enough money to pay off her debts. It is revealed that Luke sent a proxy to bid for him on the scarf, to help Rebecca out. Luke and Rebecca fall in love and she works for him in his new company.

Best scene in story:
I like the scene when Rebecca realizes that her shopping addiction can be the source of inspiration for her writing when she discovers the partially fake cashmere coat being sold as genuine.
Opinion about the main character:
Rebecca is crazy about shopping but that is what makes her so interesting.
