Ever is struggling with her love for Damen, her feelings for Jude, and the fact that no matter what she does, she can't seem to stop thinking about being with her enemy, Roman. Ever's suffers under her own spell that accidentally bound her to Roman in the last book instead of making him give her the antidote. She doesn't ask Damen for help as she fears he will hate her and instead decides to ask Jude to help her with more dark magic. Every bit of advice she is given seems to be followed incorrectly making everyone's lives more difficult.

Haven continues to whine and complain the whole book about how she wasn't popular and now wants everyone to be aware of how important she is even if it's a risk to all of the immortals. she becomes obsessed with being popular and is angry at Ever. Ever has to deal with this while also searching for the cure, constantly being bombarded with thoughts of Roman, and feeling like her aunt Sabine doesn't understand her at all.

Because Jude has the same ourobouros tattoo as Roman, Ever still thinks he may be a Rouge, despite Damen telling her otherwise. She keeps berating him about Rogues and Roman's group. When Ever cuts Jude with an Athame, it is revealed he is not a Rogue and she feels she can trust him, but he ends up in the hospital after she attacks him. Despite this, Jude allows her to use The Book of Shadows. There's a whole triple love triangle going on with Jude being in love with Ever while she's in love with Damen and because of magic is lusting after Roman who was in love with Drina that is Damen's ex. Then there's the new immortal, Haven who is in love with Roman and because Ever is dreaming about him and lusting after him, Haven and Ever are on rocky ground.

Jude is escorted to Summerland by Ever where he enters the halls of learning and finds out the true history of how he has had many past lives with Ever, but is never the chosen love interest. He vows to never give up on being with her as history repeats itself.

Ever continues dreaming about Roman and can't get him out of her mind. She tries to seduce him and this allows her to enter his mind even further. It's revealed that Roman has a dark and upsetting past which makes her feel sorry for him. She learns Drina was the only person who ever cared about him and she feels terrible for her actions. She decides to stop fighting with Roman and calls a truce.

Just as Roman is going to to give her the antidote which will allow her to physically be with Damen, to touch him, to have sex with him, everything falls apart. Jude enters the room and in a moment of misunderstanding, Jude thinks Roman is trying to hurt Ever and hits Roman in the heart chakra. Ever's worst nightmare comes true all over again because Roman was carrying the antidote in a glass vial in his shirt pocket right where Jude hit him. The antidote is destroyed and the only person who seems to know how to cure Damen's curse is now dead and has been sent to Shadowland.

Haven, being in love with Roman, is furious with Ever, but Damen forgives her for everything because he loves her.

This is the end of the book, but the series continues on in book five, Nightstar.
Best part of story, including ending: This story was almost the same as the last one, and I feel we haven't advanced at all. I want to finish the series, but it has been painful to say the least!

Best scene in story: In a twisted way, as much as I dislike Haven, I enjoyed the end when she basically vows to seek revenge on Ever.

Opinion about the main character: I'm growing tired of Ever's stupid mistakes and obsession with being with Damen when Jude is much better in my opinion.
