This is a classic story of a wealthy man looking for a temporary girlfriend to pretend to be his girlfriend for his sisters wedding. Alexandra, or simply Alex to her friends, is a shy, young scientist in Queenstown, New Zealand who is in desperate need of money to pay for her fathers heart transplant. Jayden is a wealthy American businessman who needs a solution to his problem. Recently finding his girlfriend in bed with his best friend, Jayden needs a new girlfriend to bring to his sisters weeding to avoid his mother and grandmothers math making schemes. Getting desperate Jayden turns to his New Zealand friend Peter to help him find a temporary girlfriend. Peter, good friend to Alex who also knows of her situation, brings Alex to Jayden's attention. At first Alex is supremely intimidated by the gorgeous American and Jayden is less then enamored with the shy, mousy scientist. After she spills tea all over his suit and they talk for the first time about the arrangement Jayden becomes bemused and warms up to Alex, while she begins to shy away. Desperate for a way to convince Alex to agree Jayden tells her that he is secretly gay In order to soothe her fears. Alex reluctantly accepts flys to America after her father begins recovery from the heart transplant Jayden paid for. Once Alex arrives she is overwhelmed from a long day of travel and an unexpected meeting with Jayden's family. Once she is rested Alex endures a welcome party In her honor in which she try's and project a confident image to make a good impression that works on everyone except Jayden's uptight grandma and Brittany, his grandmas choice women for Jayden. The next day Alex and Jayden accompany his sister and other family and friends to a dress fitting, all the while Jayden fights his growing attraction to Alex in order to keep up his gay image for Alex. When Alex tries on a dress for fun, Brittany tears her down with horrible words and soon she, Jayden's grandmother, and he leave for a business meeting. Fighting back tears from Brittany's harsh words, Alex is saddened by Jayden's indifference to her feelings, but is soon reassured and taken care of by his sister and friends. Determined to have a makeover, Jayden's sister and friends drag Alex all over the city to shop and get hair, skin, nails done. During this excursion Alex secretly learns that Jayden is not gay and lied to her. Determined to have revenge Alex welcomes all beauty treatments and puts on a show in their shared bedroom while trying on clothes in order to test his fortitude. Jayden, having no idea that Alex knows he is not gay, finds that he is having an increasingly hard time not falling for this shy New Zealand beauty. However Brittany is not ready to let Jayden go just yet, getting Jayden's enemy to help her, she secretly drugs Alex's drink at a club they attend one night and is almost raped by the enemy until Jayden finds her in the nick of time. Shortly after her botched plan, Brittany plots with Jayden's ex girlfriend to set up a compromising situation for Alex to find with Jayden after his sisters wedding. Crushed, Alex leaves to New Zealand thinking that there never really was a chance. Jayden, in Alex's absence, realizes his love for her and after asking her family's permission, her declares his love and proposes in the same cafe in Queenstown that they met in. Several months later they marry and begin an happily ever after.
