Max Fisher is the famous cartoonist behind Paper Clip. He meets Lily and Lincoln Aaron at an art show and after a few encounters he invites Lily on a trip to the south of France. Two months after they return, Max moved in with the Aarons. After a medical incedent involving Lincoln, Max realizes that Lily is keeping some very important secrets from him. After a bit of investigating he discovers secrets about her past that make him question his love for her. The story itself has been told many ways by many different authors, but Carroll puts a unique spin on it in his meticulous detail. His style and clever wit keep you reading until the abrupt (and unexpected) ending.
