Sophy almost immediately begins lusting after handsome Josh. She cannot believe she is attracted to a male prostitute. So, she lies to Josh pretending she is not interested in him even though he seems genuinely interested in plain old her. When they get to the wedding, the lies continue to mount as Sophy encounters her dysfunctionally funny family and friends make it worse. As the lies start spiralling out of control, Sophy realizes she wants Josh to love her.

What happens when you tell your mother you have a fabulous boyfriend who doesn't exist and you have to produce him? Well Sophy hires one but, she is actually really attracted to him and this has her confused. She then hires someone from an agency to play the part (she can't go to her sisters wedding alone). The remainder of the story is following her thoughts as she tries to figure out what to do about her feelings for him, and how she can get herself out from under all the lies she had told.
