This book is about a young man names Cadderly who stumbled apon a man bent on taking over the region. Cadderly unknowningly opened a bottle containing the chaos curse (a mist that makes every one do what their heart desires most, good or bad) and that mist killed most of the people that Cadderly didn't really care for except for his druidic friend Newander who was slain by the enemy. Cadderly had been the one who killed that man. His blood was in his hands! Cadderly couldn't get the grief out of him.

Cadderly, Danica, and the Bouldershoulder brothers, Ivan and Pickel, fight against the evil that threatens the Edificant Library. The evil mage Abilaster has released a powerful curse that will threaten to destroy the Edificant Library, and eventually, the realm. R.A. Salvatore does an admirable job with this adventure, adding mystery and humor, romance and intrigue.
