Glynn and Ember are struggling with the news that Ember, a red-haired, highly skilled musician, has been diagnosed with a fatal brain tumour which is unoperable.

But things far stranger are again stirring in the realm of Chaos, and Glynn finds herself sucked into another reality, where 'human windwalkers' glide through the air and dark coloured stones enable some to envision the future.

Now she will have to create a new past in the new world; for 'strangers' (residents of Earth who have found themselves here) have in the past been brutally killed, in accordance with the Legendsong, a written history of two tragic heroes, Lalanor and Shenavyre.

The plot again thickens as Ember is, too, transported to this world to fend for herself. Glynn, who doesn't know this, but only wants to get back to Earth to take care of Ember.

Both meet friends and enemies in this strange new world, learn much about it, and try to discover what they must do to unlock the secret of Chaos, Lanalor, Shenavyre and the Unicorn...
