Edward Marston Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Edward Marston

Jonathon Bale is a constable in the city of London and Christopher Redmayne is an architect hired to build a house in the recently destroyed city. The first couple of chapters describe the terrible fire that swept through London in 1666. Bale and Redmayne meet accidentally and Christopher is aware that Jonathon dislikes him intensely but does not know why. Bale does not know why either, except that he was a strong supporter or the former Protector, Oliver Cromwell, while Redmayne is a member of the regime now in place following the restoration of the king, Charles II. When Redmayne's employer is murdered in the cellar of the house that is being built for him Christopher immediately calls for Jonathon Bale and the couple form an alliance to solve the murder.
