Alexander and Marisa a both work at the local library and Alexander has been completely head over heels for Marisa since the day they meet. Unfortunately for him Marisa placed him in the friend zone from the very beginning and Alexander has been forced to watch from afar. Years later he is done with watching Marisa break up with another loser boyfriend and providing only friendship. Desperate for a change he contacts an old friend, Damon, who agrees to teach Alexander how to take charge of his life and finally win Marisa. Alexander and Damon's first and subsequent meetings take place in a bar on the far side of town where Damon finally convinces Alexander that in order to make progress he needs to make big changes. Alexander first starts by revealing his feelings for Marisa, who always knew about Alexander's feelings but didn't want to lose a friend. This revelation sparks a discord in their friendship that leaves Marisa confused and Alexander feeling as if a weight has been removed. The next start of Damon's teachings include the acceptance of a new position as head administrator of another library and giving Marisa space to show that he won't go back to the way things used to be. In the time Marisa doesn't see Alexander, he begins to realize that women don't want complacent men who roll over to their bidding, but someone who cares but still takes charge. In order to implement these changes, Alexander shortens his name to Alex, learns how to walk away even if he is interested in a girl, gets over his fear of a motorcycle and buys one, and finally learns how to say 'no' and assert his new authority as a library director. Alex, over the few weeks, only sees Marisa a few times but in those few moments Marisa has begun to make notice of the changes and is shocked. Marisa begins to worry over the change in who she thought was her best friend but is also confused as to why she can't stop thinking about him either. There are several moments where Marisa begins to feel attraction and curiousness for Alex but can't figure out what it exactly is. In a final moment where Marisa finally ends a brief fling with another man, Alex shows up to save the day, just as he always used to do except this time Marisa sees him for the man he really is and not just her best friend. They live happily ever after.

Best part of story, including ending:
I loved how the male in the story got the makeover and not the women like usual.
Best scene in story:
My favorite scene was when Alex drove up in a motorcycle to save Marisa, and completely shocked her by doing so.
Opinion about the main character:
I disliked Alex's choice of women, I didn't complete despise Marisa but I wish he would have even considered someone who would appreciate him more.
