But when Kit comes home to London, he finds Evelyn's affairs in a very sorry state - Evelyn has disappeared, leaving a fiance behind. If Evelyn doesn't come back in time for a dinner with Chressy (the fiance) and her grandmother, Evelyn won't be able to marry her. Not suprisingly, Evelyn doesn't turn up - so Kit has to take his place.
Kit soon finds that Evelyn's engagement to Chressy is a marriage of convenience - Evelyn needs to marry in order to escape a rigid trust placed on his inheritance, whilst Chressy is eager to remove herself from the vicinity of her mother in law. Not only does Kit have to sort out all Evelyn's affairs, but he has to stop himself falling in love with Chressy - who knows he isn't really Evelyn, but his twin brother Kit (and hasn't told him she knows)...
