Dr. Indiana Jones Jr. settles down peacefully with his Ph.D and continues teaching at the archaeology department of the London University. Still mourning the death of his dear wife Deirdre, who recently died in the Brazilian jungle, he thought he wasn't yet prepared for another adventure. Before he knows it he is swept deep into the mystery of the search for Noah's Ark, which is believed to lie on the top of Mount Ararat near Istanbul. The Russian doctor Vladimir Zobolotsky, who convinces Indy to join his expedition also takes along his attractive daughter Katrina, to whom Indy, despite his recent marital loss, is drawn to, though nothing becomes of this affection.

Their quest for the Lost Ark is not an easy one. Sicillian enforcers, Kremlin agents and local bandits all try their best to keep their team from reaching the top of the sacred mountain. Notwithstanding their efforts, their expedition arrives at their destination and locates the Ark, only to lose it again at the end when it plunges into a bottomless crevasse.
