Upon her arrival, Adelia is given a job as a groom on Travis' farm. When she and Travis first meet, sparks fly. Travis is domineering and likes to have things his way. Adelia has quite a temper herself and does not take to Travis' bossy ways.
However, in a few weeks, things begin to burn hot between Travis and Adelia. Just as they are getting closer, Adelia's beloved Uncle Paddy suffers from a coronary attack and is sent to the hospital. While there, he gets hysterical and insists that if he dies, he wants Adelia taken care of. Adelia and Travis hurriedly get married in the hospital room.
Adelia moves into Travis' house to keep up the appearance that they have an honest marriage, but in reality, Travis is keeping her at arms' length. Both partners are convinced that the other only married to please Uncle Paddy. Travis and Adelia struggle to hide their true feelings about each other.

Adelia came to America after her aunt died to be with her uncle Paddy, her only remaining relative, at the horse farm where he worked. It took some convincing, but the owner, Travis Grant, eventually allowed her to work as a trainer; discovering along the way that she had a way with horses...and a way with him.
