To Morgan Hudson, Misty Malone just looks to be trouble. So he chases her off. Then he finds out that she's actually in trouble, and drags her back so he can help her. As the sheriff, and since she is his brother's sister-in-law, it seems only natural that he should--even though he takes every opportunity to seduce her. Once he comes to realize that it's more than just sex, things get even more complicated.
